It's
very difficult for many people to really believe in
reincarnation - after all, how does one believe that we all have
an invisible soul that leaves our physical body at death and
somehow enters a new body at birth? We can't see, hear, feel,
taste or smell a person's soul - but just a minute here, we are
relying on physical senses to inform us on what exists or
doesn't exist. Remember, you can't hear or taste light and you
can't see smell or taste sound. Your senses operate in
a narrow range - you can't see very much of the entire
electro-magnetic spectrum, you can't hear all of the possible
sound spectrum, and as far as the senses of feel, taste or smell
- they operate by actual physical contact with matter...so it's
possible that there are forms of matter that these senses cannot
detect. So maybe the human soul does exist, it's just that we
can't detect it with our senses.
There are other inherent problems
with the idea of reincarnation - people do not seem to remember
their past lives. It seems that people here on earth are in
control of everything - consider our out of control population
expansion...what if our population were to increase
exponentially - where do all the new souls come from? What about
the cloning of humans? Aren't people being manufactured when
they are cloned? Obviously there are lots of arguments
against the possibility of reincarnation. The following
discussion presents arguments for the possible existence of
reincarnation despite the evidence against it.
Let's view reincarnation
as something that is possible from a scientific
approach rather than from a spiritual or religious
point of view. Spiritual or religious explanations
of reincarnation can require unquestioned leaps of faith which
often terminate any open minded attempts to understand
it. A discussion of philosophical positions or
quantum mechanics that could surround the topic of
reincarnation is beyond the scope of this site.
The following is an attempt to present some
provocative "what if" ideas of how reincarnation
could exist in a physical universe that appears to
be totally "unpredetermined" and random. We suspect that a lot of what is
very difficult to accept or understand in our
universe and the cosmos is caused by our lack of understanding of
"dimensions".
What if beyond the four
dimensions of length, width, height and time there
were other dimensions? Einstein's theory's gave us
the dimension of time and we can travel through the
other three dimensions using time.
What if
the condition of consciousness
itself is actually a cosmic dimension?
What if energy/matter
is actually a cosmic dimension?
What if the existence of
"unlimitedness" - of largeness, of smallness, of
quantity and of time is a cosmic dimension? (If you
think about it, a universe or universes may not be
able to
exist without a dimension that creates or demands no
limits for all the other dimensions.)
What if the existence of
vibration rate (of higher and lower
planes of existence) is actually a cosmic dimension?
A plane actually means a set conditions that allows energy and it's condensed
counterpart matter to exist at a certain level of
vibration. The physical universe has it's energy
and matter vibrating at one level, and the
astral plane
or universe allows it's energy and matter to vibrate
at a higher level than the physical universe. Both
the astral plane and physical plane interpenetrate
each other at the same point in space.
All the dimensions would
have to have the trait of being intertwined and
interdependent on each other. Also there are
undoubtedly more dimensions than we have
proposed here.
It's interesting to note that the ability of
consciousness or a conscious entity to manipulate
energy/matter (in the higher planes) and to change
its vibration rate and the vibration rate of
matter/energy plus it's ability to move through
length, width, height and time would explain many
psychic and paranormal happenings... and so far we
haven't even begun a discussion of parallel
and probable universes.
But to continue our
discussion of reincarnation - what if the ability of
consciousness to move through time in the lower
planes including the physical plane, was non
existent or limited... but what if
consciousness was
able to move freely through time in the higher
planes... the higher the plane the more free the
movement. This would mean that on some much higher
plane, (to a visiting consciousness or entity) all time would be one time, in other words,
all that has been or was going to be on the lower
planes could be viewed by a consciousness that
was present - it would simply be moving in or
experiencing one of the other dimensions of the
cosmos.
It is interesting to note that a conscious entity
(who exists in a higher plane but is not in the
physical) could not view an event on a higher plane
and come to the physical universe and stop or change
events from happening (conscious entities from
higher planes find it very difficult to make their
presence felt in the physical universe). Also it's
unlikely or highly difficult for someone who exists
in the physical to travel to a higher plane,
view the future and come back to the physical
universe and change things.
See Thought forms in the
the astral plane
To have reincarnation and
the cosmos work the way it appears to, all events in
time in the lower planes have to be able to be
totally random - yet on some higher plane these
events must be able to be traveled to or experienced
and have their completed existence known. If this
wasn't the case and everything was completely random
even on the highest planes, it would be very
difficult or impossible for a conscious entity to
decide on or plan a reincarnation to receive the
experiences it desired. It seems that a conscious
entity needs the experiences from reincarnation to
be able to understand things on the higher planes.
In order to understand time,
it appears that you must at least consider that time
may be limitless - with
no beginning or end - this concept would most likely
only be really understood by a sufficiently
developed conscious entity that was able
to travel freely through time.
For a conscious entity to
choose necessary life circumstances it must be able
to, at a higher level, view and choose
these circumstances - it must be able to view each
reincarnation in it's completed form so that less
developed portions of itself can be directed
(probably on a subconscious level) in choosing the
parameters for it's series of reincarnations.
Oddly enough, amongst many
other things it appears that consciousness needs to
"work out" and eliminate "fixations" on things such
as desire, horror and violence and other traits that
it is attracted to or fixated on. Ultimately a
conscious entity that is exposed to a fixation
sufficiently, will be free of it when it becomes
bored with it... through exploration of every aspect
of the fixation by the process of reincarnation.
These fixations may also may be "worked through" by
the conscious entity reincarnating in probable and
parallel universes - also the astral plane and other
lower planes would serve as places for the conscious
entity to "work through" things.
The question of why we
don't remember reincarnations is probably answered
by the statement...we do remember them! Many people
would disagree - but think about it, if your present
conscious mind remembered every detail of every
reincarnation - first of all, you would have to have
a considerably larger mind to handle all those
memories - and secondly if we remembered everything
consciously, it sure would be hard to keep coming
back. Suppose in one life everything went your way
and you were well off and happy, then in the next
life nothing went right and you ended up drug
addicted sick and broke.
But to get back to the
statement "we do remember them"...it's our
subconscious mind that remembers. Think about it,
have you ever had an affinity for a country or city
- say China or London or Rome or Egypt...this is
probably your subconscious memory of a previous
incarnation. You may also have an unexplained
emotion say a fear or hatred or desire about place,
type of person, or circumstance - this could also be
a subconscious memory of a previous incarnation.
